New PostMarch 5 - The Willies

New Post

This gave me the willies... On the way to take our son to CT to his ophthalmologist we got stuck in traffic. When we finally got to where the tie up began we saw that there had been a four car accident. To see one car having run into the gaurdrail was totaled, and one was upside down on it's hood in the middle of the highway....well....shit like that just gives me the willies.

I guess injuries were minor thank God. Read quoted story inside the 'Read More' link. This was caused by some moron being chased by police who did a U-Turn and went the wrong way on the highway.

SPRINGFIELD - A driver who made a U-turn on the highway to avoid a speeding ticket today crashed head-on into three vehicles on Interstate 91, state police said.

The accident, reported at about 2:45 p.m. in the southbound lane near Exit 10 at Birnie Avenue, sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries and tied up traffic until about 5:30 p.m., police said.

Police last night were still looking for the wrong-way driver. After the crash, he got out of his vehicle and ran, said Sgt. Robert Bousquet of state police office of media relations.

The man was last seen on Main Street, he said. It is unclear if he was injured.

Bousquet said Trooper Dylan Morris was conducting radar surveillance in the eastbound lane of Interstate 291 when a 2005 Chevrolet Impala sped by him.

As Morris began to pursue the car, it pulled into the breakdown lane, Bousquet said. The Impala stopped so abruptly that Morris had to stop his cruiser in front of it in the breakdown lane.

As the trooper stepped out of his cruiser, the driver of the Impala made a U-turn and sped off in the wrong direction toward I-91, Bousquet said.

Bousquet said Morris drove to the nearest exit and got on the highway in the proper direction.

He had just gotten back on the highway when the accident was reported over the radio, Bousquet said.

The Impala headed from I-291 onto I-91, driving north in the southbound lane.

It crashed head-on into a Ford Focus, driven by Zachary Chamerlin, 19, of East Longmeadow, sending the car onto its roof.

The Impala then smashed head-on into a Honda sedan driven by Hillary Brooks, 22, of Valatie, N.Y., and then slammed into a van driven by Anthony Stratton, 30, of Springfield.

Chamerlin and Brooks were taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Brooks and Stratton were wearing seat belts. Chamerlin was not, Bousquet said.

State and Springfield police joined in the search, as well as a state police K-9 unit, Bousquet said.”
