New PostMarch 30 - Sleep Positions

New Post

Warning...this is one of those whiny old person posts... So I reach fifty years.... And suddenly I am plagued by sciatica. And it sucks. Today has been halfway decent...there, annoying, but not awful like Friday and Saturday were. I have figured out that 6-7 hours of sleep in somehow the right position is about all I can do, and I must gingerly get out of bed and carefully reach down for my fuzzy socks, and ever so slowly get them on my feet in the morning.

New PostMarch 29 - Horrific Accident

New Post

A horrible accident/explosion here in Western MA yesterday. I don't know how long these links will be active but in the left sidebar hereExternal Link you can read the story as it unfolded.

It comes as no surprise that the driver did not pull through the night despite the heroic efforts of those brave good samaritans that helped him get out of the burning cab. That was 10,500.00 gallons of fuel (9,500 gallons of gasoline and 1,000 gallons of diesel) that exploded.

Not only did they have the accident itself, but it happened on a bridge, so responders had to contend with keeping the integrity of the bridge intact, and also avoild spillage into the run offs that go into the Connecticut river.

You know it's stuff like that that sends cold shivers down my spine. I mean the poor guy was just doing his job and his life ended so tragically.

New PostMarch 28 - Too Sore To Think

New Post

God it's hard to even think about a post. When sitting in this chair is so painful. The heating pad is my new best friend, and I seem to do better sitting on the floor as opposed to having my leg hanging off a chair.

New PostMarch 26 - Randomnsess

New Post

Thoughts random and jumbled... I went into Yankee Candle to buy not a candle, but some spray in one scent, Sage & Citrus. Eighty three dollars later.......

Cities have public transportation. My suburban town, and the one I moved from does not. No buses, no taxicabs. What with the gas through the roof and global warming, shouldn't every place offer some type of mass transit? In eastern MA where my hubby grew up and in the Boston area they have a commuter train system know as the 'T-Trains'...why not put that throughout the state?

Snow in the forecast for Friday. Is spring ever going to arrive?

Bouts of sciatica can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months. I am at about a month here...I am really done with this. Some days I am really good, other days I am in total misery. I want it to go away. NOW.

New PostMarch 23 - Happy Easter

New Post

Happy Easter Folks. We were supposed to be in Maine celebrating with family we haven't seen in several years, but things just didn't work out that way. I don't think that I could have made an eight hour ride anyway, what with this sciatica thing I am suffering from. I hope you all have a nice day with your families and friends today.

Easter is hard for me since it was Mom's favorite holiday. The year she passed away it was just a few days after Easter...it was April 15th, 2004. At least with Easter being early this year, it isn't so close to the anniversary of her death, so it's a bit easier to take.

New PostMarch 22 - Never Mind

New Post

Well now that is just not going to work. As stated in the previous post I wanted to dynamically generate a link with each post to the photo of the day...but I wanted each link to go to the corresponding day on that page. Not gonna happen. It appears that it isn't possible to cross link two 'blogs' that way.

Otherwise I am having a miserable day. The sciatica is killing me today. I have taken a muscle relaxer plus Advil, done stretching exercises, and am currently sitting with a round paperweight under my ass. All to no avail.

It's almost like weekends are the worst. I think that maybe time spent up and down off the floor playing with turbo-tot is actually beneficial.

New PostMarch 20 - Things May Get Weird

New Post

You may see some weirdness here while I figure this out. I want to generate a link at the end of each post here that goes to the photo of the day for that day. So I'm trying to hack the thing to see if this is possible to do in the way that I want to do it. I have not yet come up with the correct sequence of variables to pass to make this happen.

Yes I could manually add the link to each post I make, but that defeats the purpose of using php to run this thing in the first place. I want it to be an automated thing. So I try something, it doesn't work, I get up and go off to do something, something comes into my head to try and I come back. Don't worry if things get funky...it's just me messing around back here.

New Post

Cannot get e-mail from Comcast users. Sigh....my sister tells me that every time she tries to send me a message it gets bounced back. So I logged into my Comcast e-mail and tried to send myself a message to the address that I use...this domain. And it came back.

New PostMarch 19 - Golden Candy

New Post

Oh.My.God. My husband loves Peach Blossoms Candy, and we can't find them anywhere. So he asked me to look online. And I did. And I found them.External Link And my eyes about popped out of my head.

Twenty dollars and sixty cents plus eleven dollars and eighty cents shipping? For a can of candy that used to be bought everywhere for a few bucks? What are they? High? What is this? Some kind of 'vintage' item now? So rare is it, that they can be totally insane in pricing it? It just has me shaking my head is disbelief.

But yes, he will probably get it. He works hard and doesn't ask for much. Why not spoil him with a treat? No matter how much I cannot get over the cost of this candy.

New PostMarch 16 - New Cleaning Gadjet

New Post

Okay I bought one. I bought it at Wallgreens for less then it sells elsewhere. I bought the Swivel Sweeper.External Link While it's not the best constructed thing in the world, I like it for what it is....a quick cleanup tool for in bewteen regular vacuuming, and for quick mess pickup.

It has some pros and cons. On the plus side, it's great for those quick pickups, especially when you have kidlets around. You don't want to drag out the big guns for every spill, but you don't want crumbs ground into the carpet either.

New PostMarch 14 - Spring? Not Yet

New Post

I always get antsy in March. And I end up un-winterizing too soon. So I was just out on the sun porch wondering if I could put the ice melt that sits out there, and the shovel which was in my line of vision outside the door in the garage now.

Promising myself that this would be the year that I don't jump too soon, I checked the forecast. Sure enough...an inch of snow is in the forecast for tonight/tomorrow, and more snow is a possibility for next Wednesday and Thursday.

What with the cost of heating oil I will not rip the plastic off the windows, and turn the living room from it's 'winter configuration' (couch away from the main heating vent) to it's 'warm weather configuration' (couch away from the window where the air conditioner goes). This will be the year that I don't jump too soon. Honest. I promise.

New PostMarch 13 - I Need To See

New Post

Yes, I am concerned about global warming. I do what I can. However.....being that my vision is really bad, I think I am 20/50 - 20/70 and that is with my bi-focals which I put on first thing in the morning and take off last thing at night.

It isn't ever going to be better than that, and I can't deal with low light and lots of shadows, I do burn 100 watt regular bulbs. Yes I do. I have to.

New PostMarch 10 - Engrossed

New Post

I've been engrossed in a book. It arrived around 1-ish on Saturday. I began to read it after dinner that evening. I finished it, a four hundred, forty six page book, around 7-ish this evening. And because I've spent so much time sitting or laying down reading, I now have that hip/leg/sciatic pain back again after being pain free all last week. Damn it.

The book that had me so engrossed? David Cassidy's autobiography.External Link Yes indeed I was, as my mom used to say, 'Cassidy crazy', when I was in those early teen years. The whole poster covered room...all walls, floor to ceiling, and even on the ceiling. Yes that was me. And at fifty years old I enjoyed the book immensly thank-you-very-much. I even wrote a review that should be posted on Amazon within forty eight hours.

New PostMarch 6 - Springing Ahead Early

New Post

We 'spring ahead' at 2:00 am Sunday. This is going to feel odd huh? I mean I love longer days, but really, so early March is kind of too early. There is just something about the days getting naturally longer and then 'springing ahead' in April that is sort of magical.

March is still too winter like. What with all of the snow, and rain, and cold it's very winter like. Speaking of which...it's been wet, wet, wet. It's going to be a muddy, mushy, messy spring.

But oh I am sooooooooo ready for green trees and grass, and flowers blooming, and birds fluttering about, and time spent outside. I'm done with winter.

New PostMarch 5 - The Willies

New Post

This gave me the willies... On the way to take our son to CT to his ophthalmologist we got stuck in traffic. When we finally got to where the tie up began we saw that there had been a four car accident. To see one car having run into the gaurdrail was totaled, and one was upside down on it's hood in the middle of the highway....well....shit like that just gives me the willies.

New PostMarch 2 - Junk N' Stuff

New Post

Still in pain. But the muscle relaxer seems to be helping a teeny weeny itsy bitsy bit. Getting up in the morning is sheer hell, but after I've been up a bit the pain goes from feeling like someone is trying to pull my leg off, to feeling like I have a monkey biting my leg. Trust me, the latter is more do-able than the former. It needs to all go away. NOW.

Sitting in the desk chair, as cushy and comfy as it is, gets to be quite uncomfortable, so I am not spending huge amounts of time here.

In other news....Creative Pro has a brand new look.External Link Looks really nice, but alas I have not read anything since I am feeling not the least bit creative in my current state of physical discomfort. To quote my mom - “It's hell to get old.”
