April 29 - HTML 5
This is a geek post. So if you are bored by such you're welcome to move along. Anyway...I was very excited to learn of and play around with the new 'video' tag. Just a small tag and its attributes required to add vids to your site instead of that big bloated hunk of code. And most exciting is the ability to add a 'poster'...that would be a still image that shows before your video plays. Wheeeee! Something one can omit from the editing process!
However...and yeah you knew this was coming. The sleek and shiny new tag isn't supported by you know who...yeah...as always...that browser. Oh what a surprise. The other issue is that the only format this new tag supports is .ogg, and it's hard to find a converter that will convert to this.
Normally I convert to an .flv because it's cross platform/universally supported. But wanted to experiment with the new video tag and styling it and all. I looked around for something that will convert to the .ogg format, and the only thing I've found is Super.
The biggest question here is how long will it take Micro$haft to make Internet Destroyer compatible? We well know their track record with standards compliance. Yeah...not so much.

I'm happy April is almost over. It's been a very stressful month with things going wrong at every turn. Just one thing after another, and there hasn't been a day that something hasn't happened.
The tax crap was just the beginning. After that it's just been this and that and the other thing, and much of that involving our truck and my sister's car.
For example just yesterday.....my husband got ass ended in a parking lot on his way to work, leaving a big old dent in his back panel. Oh and that's only a small piece of the stress pie. I won't bore anyone with every little detail...hell the Internet isn't big enough to hold all of that text. Suffice to say that 'smooth sailing' without lumps and bumps would be welcome.
So yeah, I am going to be happy to see this month be over, and keeping my fingers, toes, and even my eyes crossed in hopes that May will bring better luck.
Seriously....Murphy's Law? All true. Every word of it.

Arrg, make it stop! Have you seen this story? And just why does this 'get my goat'? I'll tell you why!
I am so sick and tired of people that blame human behavior on external sources such as video games, movies, tv shows, books, music, etc. etc. etc. It's my opinion that this type of thing is just a cop out for lack of parental involvement and guidance. People...these are works of fiction, and if it is your own true personal belief that these things are harmful, then don't put them in the hands of your children. But don't force a freakin' ban on stuff.
It is up to parents to monitor and teach their children the difference between fantasy and reality. First of all don't allow an elementary aged child to play games clearly geared for older teens. Since very small children can't quite grasp the difference bewteen fantasy and reality. Is this not common sense?
And if you think your fifteen year old is mimicking violence from interacting with games, watching movies, listening to certain types of music, I'm here to tell you that you best get your fifteen year old evaluated for there is surely something wrong, and that something isn't in the form of any type of media, interactive or otherwise.
Seriously...the blame game drives me insane. How about we start accepting responsibly for our own human behavior and stop trying to place the blame elsewhere.

How to do one thing at a time. I saw this article last week in a magazine at my sister's house. And I thought 'how sad'. How sad that life has become about how much one can do all at once. How sad that a magazine article is written about slowing down and concentrating on one task at a time, you know, the way it used to be.
Technology is a wonderful thing. I embrace it, I love it. But it has the potential to throw the human brain into more directions that it can feasibly handle. And what is the main piece of technology that is responsible for the frenzied brain of the twenty first century? In my opinion it's the cell phone.
Yeah they are great. It's comforting to know that one has a means of communication anywhere, anytime. But since cellular technology has brought talking, texting, and the web into the palms of hands everywhere it is destroying the ability to literally stop and smell the roses.

Blog silence? Yeah, this past week didn't end up working out the way it was supposed to. School vacation meant I had turbo-tot to care for, however due to unforeseen circumstances I had him here only two days out of the five. The other three days I spent watching him at home.
The majority of the week was spent outside. We went bike riding, and one of us, the one that's not me, spent a lot of time skateboarding and Razor Scooter-ing. Of course turbo-tot thinks that I should be able to ride a scooter and a skateboard too. Biking, sledding, ice skating, roller skating (four wheels, not blades), these are things I will do. A skateboard or scooter? No. Not gonna happen.
The kidlet has this notion in his head that because I'm a short person, and he's not a whole lot shorter than I am at the age of close to six, that I am somehow 'young'. My fifty two year old bones and joints beg to differ with that theory.
Anyhooo....it was a busy week, with days that began at the asscrack of dawn. By last night around dinnertime I was exhausted, because since school began this is no longer routine for me. I have to toughen up, summer vacation and spending every day with turbo-tot is right around the proverbial corner.

I'm not sure how to feel about a brand new week coming up. One one hand I'm hoping it won't be as horrible and stressful as this past week has been, while on the other hand I wonder what the hell else can go wrong and pile on top of last weeks crap.
Just all of that 'out of our control' shit piling up one thing after another/one thing on top of another ya know?
And just when you think the narrow breathing room isn't quite as narrow as you thought, well something else just has to slam into the already high pile of shit and makes your breathing room even narrower than it originally was.
So yeah...I'm hoping for a less stressful, event free week around here. Let's see if the forces at work that we can't see are going to be with us or against us.
I won't even be so selfish to ask for 'smooth sailing', but can we please have a less bumpy ride?

Playing PC or video games is not something I do. So I cannot figure out why or how I have become a bit addicted to Spider Solitaire. I've played a few rounds of it every day for the past few weeks. Why? I have no idea.
And it's not like I'm playing it the hard way. No. I'm playing the 'easy' option with just one suit. Seriously, I do not know why! I'm just not a game player! Okay so I do play some Wii Bowling when I'm at my sister's house and I spend the day there waiting to get turbo-tot from school and have nothing to do, and I do play the old Mario games with him on our old Super NES system when he's here and wants to play, but that's the extent of it. It's not often.
Honestly my PC time is spent doing creative things....designing, editing photos and/or video, writing code etc. etc. etc. I'm just not into games...errr...except for Spider Solitaire. And I'm still scratching my head wondering why.

I just had to turn the heat on. I went to bed in shorts and a tee and upon waking had to put on long jammies. After a 90° day followed by an upper 80° day, and prior to that hovering near 80°, it is now down in the low 50's and rainy. I am cold. The weather pattern is crazy. This day however is 'average and normal' for this time of year here in Southern New England.
Many people balk at the term 'global warming', when in fact they need not to concentrate on that particular term, instead they need to focus on the climate change that is the result of that global warming.
And anyone that went through winter in the southeastern USA certainly can't argue with climate change. I mean they were building snowmen while my yard here in Southern New England remained green. They were needing to go out and buy snowblowers and shovels while our snowblower never got turned on and our shovels were only used two or three time.
Crazy times and crazy weather. I wonder what summertime will bring in this year of opposite weather patterns?

The springtime of my childhood. I remember this time of year as a small child growing up (until the age of ten) in Northern Maine. The new sneakers that I swore made me run faster. The new jump rope, and the new bouncy ball that was sure to get lost on the first day of use in the lilac bushes behind my grandparents house.
You see Northern Maine winters were long, and even though there was still plenty of outside play, there was nothing like that feeling of freedom when the heavy winter outer wear could be put away and play became unencumbered by the weight of it. It was like shedding a heavy weight of skin.
On the playground at school during recess girls would play jump rope games while boys played marbles. After school and after a very long bus ride, outside play was glorious.

Ahhhhh.... Open windows and a gentle breeze. Priceless. Breathe in. Breathe out. Oh yeah baby, fresh air wafting through a house that's been closed up since autumn is not only refreshing it's downright re-newing! My soul is dancing and my arms are free of long sleeves.
Yesterday, I spent a good deal of time outside with nephew of mine. We played baseball, went for a bike ride, and I sat on my lawn swing while he rode his Power Wheels around the yard, observing that yellow-green color that is bursting forth everywhere as the earth re-news and is re-born.
THIS my friends is why for me the 'new year' is now in this the season of renewal and new life in the world outside of our windows, walls and doors.
It is official. Spring is here and happening.

I'm back home after being away for two days. Yup, I was at my sister's and am in for some busy ones. It has become routine and my guys have gotten much better at fending for themselves when I'm not here. That's not to say I don't have to catch up around here from two days away, because I do.
I've been grocery shopping and got that all put away, made dinner, vacuumed the carpets, now I need to wipe down the kitchen, empty the dishwasher when it gets done, sweep floors, mop floors, clean the bathroom, fold and put away two loads of wash and take out the trash. You see I will not go to bed and leave things un-done. I just won't. I also will not allow anyone else to do 'my' routine things. If they do I'll go back and re-do it. I'm anal about this stuff.
Oh once in a blue moon I might leave the dishwasher and laundry folding until morning. And once in a blue moon I might skip the sweeping and mopping but that does not happen very often.
I have kidlet here tomorrow, and then the holiday, and then on Sunday I have to go back to my sister's for another over-night. Then back home and play catch up again. So yeah...a few very busy ones for me. Just when it all seemed too quiet, busy comes bouncing back again.
